Convincing electrons to have fun…
The Emperor’s Diary is a court management and ruler simulation set in an unreal and fictional ancient dynasty. You play as a newly crowned emperor, balancing court affairs, the treasury, public support, the border, the inner palace, and your ministers with limited energy each day. Every decision brings benefits and costs. There is no single right answer: the tradeoffs you make will shape the court, the people, and the stability of your reign. When I was making The Emperor’s Diary, I never wanted it to be the kind of emperor game where you simply find the optimal solution and win. What I wanted instead was a game where many things are connected. A decision you make today to solve one problem may not reveal its full consequences until months or even years later. Some decisions have no perfect answer, and even choices that seem right at the time can come with lasting costs. In the end, I don’t want every playthrough to collapse into the same “good ending” or “bad ending.” I want the result to feel more like a summary of that particular reign. The game has grown far beyond what I originally imagined. Many parts of it were gradually revised and improved through repeated playtesting and player feedback. At this point, the main content is largely complete. Going forward, I would rather focus on maintaining and optimizing the game than endlessly adding new systems. Thank you to everyone willing to spend the time to see a reign through to the end.

Editor's Take
By the Pogglo editorsRule a fictional dynasty on a strict daily energy budget, where every edict pays for itself somewhere you didn't expect.
Sitting a newly crowned emperor down with too many problems and too little time is a proven recipe, and The Emperor's Diary leans into it. Set in an invented ancient dynasty, this ruler simulation asks you to juggle court affairs, the treasury, public support, the border, the inner palace, and your ministers, all against a limited pool of energy each day. You cannot touch everything, which is the entire point.
The design refuses to hand you a clean answer. Every decision carries a benefit and a cost, and the interesting management comes from deciding which fire to let smolder while you put out a bigger one. Please the ministers and the treasury may groan; shore up the border and public support may slip. It is the kind of tradeoff-driven court sim where a reign is really just a long chain of compromises you can live with.
